Skid Steer Hydraulic Hammers Matched to Your Loader's Flow

A skid steer hammer breaks concrete, asphalt and rock from the front of your loader. JMA lists two: a 280-joule hammer for mini skid steers that runs on 3.96–5.28 GPM, and the 1,018-joule JMASB40EBH, offered with a skid steer head, that runs on 10.6–18.5 GPM. The right one depends on your loader's auxiliary flow and coupler, so we confirm both before you order.

3 Steps to a Perfect Fit

  1. Check your loader's auxiliary flow.Find your skid steer's auxiliary flow in GPM. The 280-joule hammer runs on 3.96–5.28 GPM and the JMASB40EBH on 10.6–18.5 GPM. A hammer is built for its flow range, so match it before you order.
  2. Confirm the coupler. The 280-joule hammer mounts with a skid steer style coupler, and the JMASB40EBH is offered with a skid steer head. Send us your loader's make and model and we confirm the coupler and the hydraulic hookup.
  3. Pick the size for your loader. The 280-joule hammer, with a 40 mm chisel, is for mini skid steers. The 1,018-joule JMASB40EBH takes a 68 mm chisel.

Skid Steer Hammer FAQ

  1. Which hammer fits my skid steer?

It depends on your loader's size, auxiliary flow and coupler. The 280-joule hammer is for mini skid steers and runs on 3.96–5.28 GPM. The 1,018-joule JMASB40EBH, offered with a skid steer head, runs on 10.6–18.5 GPM. Send us your make and model and we confirm the fit.

  2. How much hydraulic flow does a skid steer hammer need?

The 280-joule hammer needs 3.96–5.28 GPM and the JMASB40EBH needs 10.6–18.5 GPM. Your loader's auxiliary circuit has to deliver flow inside that range.

  3. My loader has more auxiliary flow than the hammer's range. Can I still use it?

Tell us your loader's flow before you order. A hammer is built for its flow range, and we confirm the hookup for your machine before it ships.

  4. How does the hammer attach to my skid steer?

The 280-joule hammer mounts with a skid steer style coupler, and the JMASB40EBH is offered with a skid steer head. Send us your loader's make and model and we confirm the coupler before you buy.

  5. What is the difference between the 280 J hammer and the JMASB40EBH?

The 280-joule hammer is for mini skid steers, runs on 3.96–5.28 GPM and takes a 40 mm chisel. The JMASB40EBH delivers 1,018 joules, runs on 10.6–18.5 GPM and takes a 68 mm chisel.

  6. What do I need to tell JMA to confirm the fit?

Your loader's make and model, its auxiliary flow in GPM and its coupler type. With those we match the hammer and the hookup.

  7. What chisel diameter does each hammer take?

The 280-joule hammer takes a 40 mm chisel and the JMASB40EBH a 68 mm chisel.

  8. Which chisel should I use: moil point or blunt?

A moil point (pointed tool) concentrates the blow and is the everyday choice for concrete, asphalt and trenching. A blunt tool spreads the blow and is best for boulders and oversize rock.

  9. Is a skid steer hammer the same as a hydraulic breaker?

Yes. "Hydraulic hammer", "hydraulic breaker" and "breaker hammer" all mean the same attachment: a hydraulic tool that hits a chisel hundreds of times a minute to break rock, concrete and asphalt.

  10. A hammer shows out of stock. Can I still order it?

Yes. Use Request a Quote on the card and we reply with the lead time for your loader.

  11. Do you also sell post driver hammers for skid steers?

Yes. Our post driver hammers for mini excavators and skid steers are on the skid steer post driver hammer page.

  12. Where do you ship from, and what is the warranty?

In-stock JMA hammers ship from our warehouse in Doral (Miami), FL the same business day when ordered before 2 PM ET, and you can also pick up in person. Standard freight delivery takes 7–10 business days. Every hammer has a 24-month warranty; coverage varies by component, see the warranty card.
